Guiriko sets selection rules for two Ligue de la Souverainete teams

The Guiriko region has announced the criteria for choosing players for its two teams in the Ligue de la Souverainete.

The plans were presented in Bobo-Dioulasso on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, during a meeting between the regional governor and local sports officials.

The technical staff will be appointed through an open application process. Players will be selected on the basis of their ability, while at least 50% of each squad must be resident in the Guiriko region.

Footballers already registered in competitions organised by the Federation burkinabe de football (FBF) will also be eligible for selection.

The regional authorities have set the minimum age for players at 16. Each team must include at least seven players under the age of 19, as part of an effort to support the development of young talent in the region.

The teams will also have to meet governance requirements. Each side must have a board of directors and operate as a sports company.

The measure is intended to improve the administrative and financial management of the clubs taking part in the competition.
