Iaia Manco Danfa set for more minutes after making Borussia Monchengladbach debut

Borussia Monchengladbach youngster Iaia Manco Danfa could receive further playing time against VfB Stuttgart after making his Bundesliga debut, although head coach Alexander Blessin has ruled out a starting role for the 19-year-old.

Danfa made his first appearance in Germany’s top flight during Gladbach’s 2-1 defeat to TSG Hoffenheim, coming off the bench in the 78th minute. His introduction marked an important milestone after impressing during pre-season and earning promotion to the senior squad.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s Bundesliga encounter with Stuttgart, Blessin made it clear that Danfa would not start the match.

“Not from the beginning,” the coach said, while explaining that opportunities for young players depend on their performances in training as well as the team’s needs.

Blessin was nevertheless encouraged by the forward’s progress and indicated that he should remain part of the matchday squad.

“He has shown good signs in training,” the Gladbach coach noted, leaving the door open for another appearance from the bench.

“Perhaps there will be another surprise. These are things you can bring about from the bench,” Blessin added.

Gladbach’s attacking options remain limited by injuries to Isac Lidberg and captain Tim Kleindienst, increasing the importance of having emerging players available.

Danfa has already made a positive impression at youth level, recording three goals and two assists in six appearances for the club’s under-23 side this season. His performances helped him earn a place in the senior squad.

The teenager will now hope to build on his senior debut and demonstrate that he can contribute at Bundesliga level.

While Blessin is taking a measured approach to his development, the coach’s comments suggest Danfa remains firmly in contention for further minutes as Gladbach prepare for their trip to Stuttgart on Friday evening.

For the young forward, another substitute appearance would provide a valuable opportunity to gain experience and strengthen his position within the first-team squad.
