Granada defender Oscar Nace Obong on brink of Real Madrid Castilla move

Real Madrid are close to completing a permanent deal for Ghanaian defender Oscar Nace Obong, who is expected to join the club’s Castilla side as part of their continued investment in young talent.

The 21-year-old Granada player has emerged as a priority target for Real Madrid, with negotiations believed to have accelerated in recent weeks. According to AS, the transfer could be completed as early as Tuesday, after the Spanish club moved ahead of several interested teams, including Rayo Vallecano.

Oscar Nace Obong was born in Accra, Ghana, on 24 February 2005. He is under contract with Granada until 2028, but Real Madrid have been monitoring his progress since last season and are now close to securing his signature.

If the move goes through, he will initially join Castilla under head coach Julian Lopez de Lerma. The club’s reserve side is intended to provide a development pathway as Real Madrid assess whether the defender can eventually challenge for a place in the first team.

The Ghanaian stands 1.85 metres tall and is regarded as a physically strong defender. His ability to operate both at centre-back and right-back is also considered an important asset, giving him the tactical flexibility to cover more than one position.

Oscar Nace Obong is currently valued at about €1.5m by Transfermarkt. He joined Granada’s academy in 2023 after moving from Ghanaian club Emmanuel City.

His progress through the Spanish club’s system was swift. After attracting attention at academy level, he was promoted to Granada’s reserve team before making his senior debut during the previous season.

He has taken another step forward this term after earning the confidence of coach Pacheta. Oscar Nace Obong started Granada’s opening two league matches of the campaign, against Real Oviedo and Real Mallorca, underlining his growing involvement with the first team.

Real Madrid’s interest reflects a broader recruitment strategy focused on identifying promising young players and developing them within the club’s structure. In recent years, the club have increasingly used Castilla as a platform for players who may later be considered for senior football at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A completed agreement would make Oscar Nace Obong the latest emerging talent to join that long-term project. His immediate objective would be to establish himself with Castilla, continue his development in Spain and compete for an opportunity with Real Madrid’s first-team squad in the coming years.
