Goncalo Ramos scores first AC Milan goal in victory over Venezia

AC Milan made it two Serie A wins from two under Ruben Amorim as Goncalo Ramos scored his first goal for the club in a 2-0 victory over Venezia.

The result ended Milan’s frustrating run of four home league matches without a win, while Venezia remain pointless after returning to the Italian top flight.

There were emotional tributes before kick-off to Milan legend Franco Baresi, and the Rossoneri followed them with a disciplined defensive performance. However, they initially struggled to convert sustained attacking pressure into goals.

Ramos had Milan’s first clear opportunity after 12 minutes when Samuel Chukwueze sent him through on goal. The assistant referee did not raise his flag, but Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stankovic reacted sharply to keep out the Portuguese forward’s right-footed attempt.

Venezia soon threatened at the other end. John Yeboah released Akor Adams, but Chukwueze tracked back effectively and forced the striker wide before Mike Maignan dealt comfortably with the resulting effort.

The visitors grew into the game and created further danger after Ridgeciano Haps delivered a cross into the Milan penalty area. The ball eventually reached Yeboah, only for Strahinja Pavlovic to make an important block.

Milan regained control and Ramos was denied again, with Stankovic saving a first-time effort from close range. The forward continued to find promising positions, while Koni De Winter and Chukwueze also went close before the interval.

Venezia remained competitive after the restart. Antoine Hainaut sent a shot across the face of goal before Milan missed a major chance to break the deadlock.

Following a free-kick from Luka Modric, Yunus Musah struck the crossbar from close range as the home side were left frustrated once more.

Venezia continued to pose a threat, and Adams found room inside the Milan penalty area. Mario Gila, though, produced a crucial block to preserve the scoreline.

That moment proved particularly important because Milan went ahead just two minutes later.

Alexis Saelemaekers carried the ball forward on the left, moved inside and threaded a pass into the path of Ramos. The Portugal international kept his composure and sent a low finish into the bottom corner to give Milan the lead.

The goal was Ramos’ first since joining the Rossoneri and provided the home side with the advantage they had been seeking for much of the match.

Amorim’s team then managed the closing stages before adding a second goal in unfortunate circumstances for Venezia. Ardon Jashari broke through and saw his effort saved by Stankovic, but the rebound hit the retreating Redouane Halhal and rolled into the net for an own goal.

The victory maintains Milan’s impressive start under Amorim after two league matches. Venezia, meanwhile, are still waiting for their first point of the campaign and have now gone 27 away matches without a win in the Italian top flight.
