Reports suggest that former Ghanaian football captain Stephen Appiah is gearing up to enter the political arena by contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024.
Renowned sports journalist Fiifi Tackie, known for his close association with the legendary midfielder, disclosed that Appiah has aspirations to run as an independent candidate in the electoral race.
Appiah has set his sights on the fiercely contested Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, where he is poised to compete against the incumbent MP Lydia Alhassan and popular actor John Dumelo.
Announcing the news on social media, Mr. Tackie stated, “Stephen Appiah will run in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency as an independent parliamentary candidate.”
While Appiah enjoys widespread popularity, clinching victory in the election presents a formidable challenge amidst stiff competition from other candidates vying for the seat.
The 43-year-old former Juventus player rose to fame for his pivotal role in leading Ghana to its maiden FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006.
