The global showpiece, to be co-hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico will feature an expanded 48 countries, with Ghana securing one of Africa’s automatic nine slots for the tournament.
The West African powerhouse are paired in Group L alongside European giants, England, 2018 finalists Croatia and Panama.
Ghana will open their account at the global showpiece Panama followed by England. The Black Stars will wrap up their group game against Croatia.
At his unveiling at Alissa Hotel on Thursday, the Portuguese trainer did not mince words about the task ahead, stressing that the global tournament remains his overriding objective.
“In this moment 99.9% of my focus is on success at the World Cup,” he said, underlining the urgency surrounding his short-term mandate.
The experienced coach brings a wealth of pedigree, having previously worked with top clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United, as well as managing national teams including Portugal national football team and Iran national football team.
His World Cup credentials are equally impressive. Queiroz guided the South Africa national football team to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the Round of 16 in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions.
He has also held coaching roles with the Egypt national football team, Japan national football team, Qatar national football team, and Oman national football team.
With preparations already underway, Queiroz is expected to quickly settle into his role as he begins shaping a competitive squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
