FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival: DR Congo edged out by El Salvador in five-goal opener

DR Congo’s U15 side began the first FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival in Azerbaijan with a narrow 3-2 defeat by El Salvador in Baku.

The Leopardeaux were beaten at the Hovsan Sports Complex after a closely contested opening match in which their lack of continental experience proved costly. El Salvador took advantage of key moments to secure the win, despite facing a determined performance from the young Congolese team.

DR Congo showed character and attacking intent throughout the game, scoring twice through Shina Charles and Lobwa Elie. Their ability to create and finish chances offered encouragement, but El Salvador’s clinical approach ultimately proved decisive.

The opening defeat will be a frustrating result for the Congolese players, although the tournament remains open. The team will now need to address its defensive mistakes while building on the attacking qualities displayed against El Salvador when it returns to action on the next matchday.
