FIFA bans CR Belouizdad from registering new players after Khanyisa Mayo’s complaint
The world football governing body, FIFA, has handed Algerian side CR Belouizdad a transfer ban preventing the club from registering new players, both domestically and internationally, following a ruling tied to a contractual dispute involving South African forward Khanyisa Mayo.
The decision stems from a formal complaint lodged by Mayo, who is currently on loan at South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
The striker had previously signed a three-year contract with CR Belouizdad after his move from Cape Town City, a deal reportedly structured during the tenure of former club president Mehdi Rabhi.
According to details surrounding the agreement, the contract was valued at approximately $1 million in associated paperwork and contractual costs, forming a key part of the dispute that ultimately triggered the sanction.
As part of its ruling, FIFA also imposed a financial penalty of $200,000 on CR Belouizdad, compounding the club’s difficulties as it faces restrictions in the transfer market.
The ban is expected to significantly affect the Algerian club’s planning ahead of upcoming domestic and continental campaigns, with no immediate timeline yet confirmed for when the sanction could be lifted.
