Fenerbahce confirm Marco Asensio surgery and Nathan Ake injury

Fenerbahce have confirmed that Marco Asensio has undergone successful surgery on his left knee, while Nathan Ake is expected to be sidelined for about three weeks with a right thigh injury.

Asensio required an arthroscopic procedure in Spain after suffering damage to the cartilage in his left knee. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Fenerbahce’s club doctor.

The Turkish club said the Spain international’s treatment and rehabilitation are expected to take approximately three months. No further details about the exact date of his return were provided.

Asensio has made eight appearances for Fenerbahce since the start of the current season. He has scored two goals and supplied one assist during that time.

Ake was injured during Fenerbahce’s match against Slavia Prague on Tuesday evening. The defender underwent medical examinations and a computed tomography scan at Atasehir Medicana Hospital under the supervision of the club doctor.

Those tests revealed a moderate strain and swelling in the muscles at the back of his right thigh. Fenerbahce expect Ake’s treatment and rehabilitation to last about three weeks.

The two injuries came as Fenerbahce drew 2-2 with Slavia Prague in the third round of the UEFA Champions League. Ake has played 17 matches for the club this season.

The club issued its updates on both players after completing the medical assessments and confirming the projected recovery periods for Asensio and Ake.
