Having departed for Naples last January, despite initial expectations of finishing the season with AS Saint-Etienne, Faouzi Ghoulam is thriving in Italy, particularly since securing a prominent role as a starter for the Partenopei.
In an interview with L’Equipe, the former Stéphanois shed light on his decision to leave.
“When a big club comes calling, hesitation can cost you dearly. If you don’t seize the opportunity, they’ll find someone else. It was a risk to depart in the midst of a World Cup season. However, I made a decision with the long term in mind. The offer from Naples was too enticing to turn down,” emphasized the Algerian national team defender.
Despite his flourishing career at Naples and the reported interest from PSG, Ghoulam remains steadfast in his allegiance to his former club.
“Whether it’s in the Champions League or domestically, I will always cherish my support for the club that holds a special place in my heart. Thanks to technology, I continue to follow Saint-Étienne closely. It’s where my dreams took root,” he added.
