Fadlu Davids linked to Young Africans coaching role amid Raja Casablanca uncertainty

Former Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids has emerged as a leading contender for a major coaching position in African football, with his future at Moroccan giants Raja Athletic Club increasingly uncertain.

Davids is facing growing speculation over his long-term role at the Casablanca-based club, with reports from Morocco suggesting his tenure could be coming to an early end following a dip in results.

The pressure intensified after Raja’s defeat to RS Berkane in a key Botola Pro League encounter, a result that dented their push to close the gap at the top of the table.

Raja currently sit fifth on 42 points, four behind leaders RS Berkane, with AS FAR Rabat, MAS Fes and Wydad Athletic Club also positioned above them in a tightly contested title race.

Although the Green Eagles remain mathematically in contention with eight matches left, sections of the club hierarchy are reportedly dissatisfied with recent performances and are considering a change in the technical area.

Amid the uncertainty, interest from East Africa has surfaced, with Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC said to have identified Davids as a strong candidate for their vacant head coaching role.

Young Africans are currently being led on an interim basis by Abdihamid Moalin and former Kaizer Chiefs captain Patrick Mabedi, following the departure of Pedro Gonçalves.

Gonçalves, who had been in charge since November 2025, left his position last month as the club moved to reset its technical direction ahead of future campaigns.

Davids is no stranger to Tanzanian football, having previously had a brief stint with Simba SC, a factor that could strengthen his appeal should Young Africans pursue him formally.

For now, his immediate future remains unresolved, with both Raja Casablanca’s internal deliberations and Young Africans’ search for a permanent coach set to shape the next chapter of his career.
