Fabrice Shema resigns as president of Rwanda Football Federation

Fabrice Shema has resigned as president of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), less than a year after being elected to the role in August 2025.

His unexpected departure brings an early end to his tenure and represents another change at the top of Rwandan football. During his brief time in office, Shema sought to introduce a new direction by restructuring the federation and raising the status of football in the country.

FERWAFA has not yet fully disclosed the reasons behind the sudden decision.

The federation’s executive committee will now oversee the transition before new elections are held within the timeframe set out in its statutes.

Shema’s resignation means Rwandan football must quickly restore institutional stability as it continues with its ongoing projects.
