Elias Mokwana leaves Esperance amid foreign-player registration issue

Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana has ended his contract with Esperance Sportive de Tunis with immediate effect after the club was unable to register him for the 2026/27 season.

The 27-year-old joined the Tunisian giants from Sekhukhune United in 2024 in a reported R7-million transfer. He scored seven goals and provided four assists in 38 appearances during his debut season.

Mokwana subsequently moved to Saudi Pro League club Al Hazem on loan. However, the move was not made permanent, and Al Hazem’s full allocation of foreign players has left the winger without a place as the 2026/27 campaign continues.

iDiski Times understands that Mokwana and Esperance have now agreed to terminate his contract. The separation was described as amicable and was prompted by the registration issue at the club.

Mokwana has been linked with a number of clubs in North Africa and the Gulf in recent weeks. However, sources say he will “assess his options carefully” before deciding on the next step in his career.

The winger is also hoping to return to the senior national team set-up.
