Cameroon returns to training WAFCON success

Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses have returned to training for the first time since their historic triumph at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with a 29-player squad beginning a training camp in Yaoundé.

The African champions commenced their preparations on Monday at the FECAFOOT Technical Centre, with the majority of the players called up drawn from the domestic league.

Under the supervision of Valentine Nguele’s technical team, the squad held its opening training session at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé as the coaching staff resumed work with the players following their continental success.

The programme continues on Tuesday, with the Lionesses scheduled to play a friendly match at the same venue at 4 pm local time.

The gathering represents the team’s first organised camp since lifting the WAFCON title two months ago and provides an opportunity for the technical staff to assess the players and maintain the team’s momentum after their historic achievement.

With the squad largely made up of home-based talents, the camp is also expected to help the coaching staff identify promising players who could strengthen the national team in future competitions.

The opportunity to work closely with domestic league players could prove important as Cameroon look to broaden their options and build greater depth following their success on the continental stage.

The Lionesses will be hoping to maintain the standards that delivered their historic WAFCON triumph as they begin preparations for the challenges ahead.
