Ekomie completes Wrexham move from Angers on four-year contract

Jacques Ekomie has officially left Angers to join Wrexham AFC in a transfer worth more than €8m.

The move, announced jointly by the two clubs on Thursday, takes the 23-year-old Gabon international from the French league to Wrexham, who currently play in the second tier of English football.

The transfer is the first sale made by Angers during this transfer window and represents a significant financial return for the club. Angers signed Ekomie on a free transfer two years ago, meaning the deal provides the SCO with a sizable profit.

Ekomie has agreed a four-year contract with Wrexham. The left-back, who is currently valued at €9m, will now begin a new stage of his professional career in Britain after ending his time in France.

The defender played his final match for Angers on Sunday, bringing his spell at the club to a close. Since joining in June 2024 from Girondins de Bordeaux, he made 55 appearances for Angers in all competitions.

Born in Libreville, Ekomie established himself as an international player for Gabon during his time in France. His departure comes after just over two years with Angers, where his performances helped increase his value and attracted interest from Wrexham.

Wrexham are preparing for their third Championship match of the season, with Birmingham due to provide the opposition. The fixture will be one of Ekomie’s first opportunities to become involved with his new club after completing the move.

The betting company 1xbet listed Wrexham as favourites for the match, offering odds of 2.35 for a home win. A draw was priced at 3.30, while Birmingham were given odds of 2.85 to win.
