The Egypt women’s national basketball team have started an open training camp in Alexandria as they prepare for the Zone 5 qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Women’s Championship.
The qualifiers are scheduled to begin in February, with the continental tournament set to take place from 23 July to 1 August 2027.
The camp is being held in two stages. The team will train in Alexandria on 3, 4 and 5 November before moving to Cairo, where preparations will continue on 6, 7 and 8 November.
Amr El Sobky is in charge of the national team, assisted by Hany Hassan and Alyaa Mahmoud. Moshira El Morshedy is the team’s administrative director.
The Egyptian Basketball Federation said the camp includes 30 players from different clubs.
A new selection plan has been introduced for the current camp as part of the preparations for the 2027 Africa Women’s Championship. The squad has been divided into three groups of 10 players.
The first group consists of 10 experienced players. The second includes 10 players from the youth teams, while the final group is made up of 10 players from the older youth age categories who are younger than the established senior players.
The camp in Alexandria marks the opening phase of Egypt’s preparations for the Zone 5 qualifying competition, with the team due to complete its programme in Cairo later in November.
