Raja Casablanca return to winning ways by beating FAR Rabat after Paco Jemez exit

Raja Casablanca began life after the dismissal of Spanish manager Paco Jemez with a 2-1 victory over FAR Rabat in the Moroccan league.

The result ended a four-match winless run in the competition and came in the delayed fixture from the opening round. All three goals were scored in the first half.

Jemez was dismissed by Raja after a poor run of results, with the decision following a 2-0 defeat by Renaissance Berkane.

Abdel Karim El Jinani took temporary charge of the Moroccan side after the Spanish coach’s departure.

The victory lifted Raja eight places in the table. They now have nine points from six matches and sit sixth, just four points behind the leaders.

Raja will look to build on the result when they host Ittihad Tanger next Sunday in the seventh round of the league.

The club are also in Group A of the Confederation Cup alongside Al Ahly, Togo’s ASKO Kara and Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto.

Raja secured their place in the group stage by beating Nigeria’s El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 in the second leg of their qualifying tie. The first meeting had ended in a 2-2 draw.

Al Ahly and Raja are scheduled to meet in the third and fourth rounds of the group stage.

The Egyptian side will host Raja at Cairo Stadium on one of the days between 18 and 20 December, before travelling to face the Moroccan club between 8 and 10 January.
