Egypt Sports Minister offers Zamalek support ahead of Confederation Cup final against USM Alger

Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Gawhar Nabil, has stepped in to ensure maximum support for Zamalek SC ahead of their crucial CAF Confederation Cup final first-leg clash against USM Alger in Algeria.

The minister reportedly held a telephone conversation with Egypt’s ambassador to Algeria, Abdel Latif Al-Layeh, to monitor the conditions surrounding Zamalek’s delegation and confirm that all logistical and security arrangements were in place before Saturday’s continental showdown.

Zamalek are set to face USM Alger in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final at the historic 5 July Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 10 pm Cairo time. The decisive return leg will then take place in Cairo on May 16 at Cairo International Stadium.

During the discussions, Ambassador Al-Layeh reportedly reassured the Egyptian minister that the Zamalek delegation was receiving full attention and support from the Egyptian embassy in Algeria. He also confirmed that extensive arrangements had been made to facilitate the attendance of Egyptian supporters expected to travel for the final, including members of the Egyptian community in Algeria and fans arriving directly from Egypt.

The Egyptian embassy is understood to be coordinating efforts to ensure supporters can attend the match smoothly and safely, reflecting the significance of the occasion for Egyptian football.

Minister Gawhar Nabil also expressed his support for Zamalek and wished the club success in securing a positive result away from home, believing that a strong performance in Algeria could place the White Knights in a favourable position ahead of the second leg in Cairo.

The Confederation Cup final is viewed as a major opportunity for Zamalek to add another continental title to their history and restore dominance on the African stage. The Egyptian giants head into the clash under pressure but with growing determination to deliver silverware for their supporters after a challenging campaign.

USM Alger, however, are expected to provide fierce resistance on home soil. The Algerian side have impressed throughout the competition and will rely heavily on home support at the 5 July Stadium as they seek to gain a first-leg advantage before travelling to Cairo.

With anticipation building across both countries, the final has already developed into one of the biggest African club fixtures of the year, combining fierce rivalry, continental prestige, and passionate fan bases.

For Zamalek, the objective is clear: leave Algeria with a result strong enough to boost their hopes of lifting the Confederation Cup trophy in Cairo next week.
