Egypt’s U-20 national team edged Tunisia 1-0 in a high-stakes encounter on the final day of the UNAF U-20 tournament, securing their qualification for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kabaka’s Strike Seals Victory

The match, played on Tuesday, November 26, saw both sides battling for a chance to progress.

Ahmed Kabaka became the hero for the young Pharaohs, finding the net in the 53rd minute with a decisive strike that ultimately sent his team through.

Tunisia, needing a victory to keep their AFCON hopes alive, struggled to capitalize on their opportunities.

Despite Egypt being reduced to 10 men for the entire second half, the Carthage Eaglets failed to mount a comeback, leaving their qualification dreams in tatters.

A Missed Opportunity for Tunisia

For Tunisia, the loss marked the end of their journey in the tournament.

The defeat was a bitter blow for the Carthage Eaglets, who had entered the game with high hopes of securing their place in the continental competition.

However, a single lapse in defense proved costly, allowing Egypt to capitalize and claim the vital three points.

Egypt’s Resilience Under Micale

Egypt’s triumph is a testament to the resilience instilled by their Brazilian coach, Rogério Micale.

Playing nearly half the match with a numerical disadvantage, the team displayed remarkable composure and tactical discipline to hold off Tunisia’s attacks and maintain their slim lead.

With this win, Egypt joins Morocco, the tournament leaders, in securing a spot at the U-20 AFCON.

Morocco finished atop the standings with 10 points, while Egypt’s victory solidified their position as runners-up.

Looking Ahead

The result underscores Egypt’s growing strength at the youth level and sets the stage for their participation in the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

For Tunisia, the loss brings a period of reflection and a need to rebuild ahead of future competitions.

The young Pharaohs will now focus on preparing for the AFCON, where they will aim to compete for continental glory and showcase the depth of talent emerging from Egyptian football.
