Egypt media co-ordinator Mohamed Morad steps down after five years with national team

Mohamed Morad has resigned as media co-ordinator of the Egypt national team after five years in the role, covering the period from Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz through to the current coaching staff led by Hossam Hassan and his brother Ibrahim.

Morad’s departure comes as uncertainty surrounds Hossam Hassan’s position as Egypt manager. The coach has recently been involved in a public personal dispute with his former wife, Dan Adam, while reports have suggested the Egyptian Football Association has begun considering alternative options in case a change is made at the top of the coaching staff.

No official decision has been announced on whether Hossam Hassan will remain in his position or leave.

Morad announced his resignation in a statement posted on his official Facebook page. He said he had reached the decision after lengthy consideration and had worked to present the national team’s media operation in the best possible way, despite often handling the work alone during important stages.

“After long consideration, I decided to leave my position as co-ordinator of the Egypt senior national football team after five years, starting with Queiroz and continuing through the best, most important and most successful period with coach Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan,” Morad said.

“I hope the officials support them in the coming period if they want to build a strong national team.”

Morad said his responsibilities had included Egypt’s campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and the World Cup, which he described as the most important and successful tournament of his career, as well as that of the team and the Egyptian people.

“I tried and worked as hard as I could to present the media side of the national team in an excellent way,” he added. “I worked on my own throughout these years, including during the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and, most importantly, the World Cup.

“I received praise from FIFA for the tournament’s media operation, and a special email was sent about that, despite working alone. All the other national teams had at least four media co-ordinators.”

Egypt are listed to face Malawi in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on 13 November 2026.

Morad thanked several officials who, he said, had helped him take up and retain the position. He named Ahmed Diab, Gamal Allam, Mohamed Yehia Lotfy, Walid El Attar, Ola El Shafey and Abdel Fattah Abdel Monem, as well as members of the board.

“I wish the national team and the twins every success and support,” he said. “I thank many people who were responsible for me being in this position, including Ahmed Diab, Gamal Allam, Mohamed Yehia Lotfy, Walid El Attar, Ola El Shafey and Abdel Fattah Abdel Monem. I thank the respected people on the board.”

He ended his statement with a pointed message to an unnamed official at the Egyptian Football Association: “One final thing to the marginalised person at the Football Association: I stayed despite you, and I left by my own choice.”
