Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal closing in on trailblazing move to Hassania Agadir and Moroccan top flight
Egypt international goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal is in advanced talks to join Hassania Agadir, with the move set to make him the first Egyptian goalkeeper to play in Morocco’s top professional league if a deal is completed.
Moroccan outlet Sport7 reports that Abou Gabal has reached an initial agreement with the Botola Pro club, with negotiations described as progressing positively during the current transfer window.
Final details between the 35-year-old and Hassania Agadir are still being discussed, and the transfer will only be confirmed once both parties sign the official contracts.
Should the move be finalised, Abou Gabal would become the first goalkeeper from Egypt to feature in the Moroccan professional championship, giving the experienced stopper an opportunity to leave a mark in a new league after a long career in his home country.
Hassania Agadir move driven by goalkeeping vacancy
Hassania Agadir’s push to secure Abou Gabal follows the departure of their first-choice goalkeeper Badr Eddine Abbar, whose contract with the club has expired.
The end of Abbar’s deal has left the Moroccan side searching for a replacement with significant high-level experience, prompting them to target an established international such as Abou Gabal.
Club officials are understood to view the Egypt goalkeeper as a ready-made solution to fill the vacancy, with his background at major clubs and on the international stage seen as a key asset.
Extensive experience in Egyptian football
Abou Gabal has built a notable career in Egyptian football, representing several leading sides in the domestic game.
He has played for Zamalek, one of Egypt’s most prominent clubs, as well as National Bank of Egypt, Smouha and Modern Sport, gaining experience across different competitions and pressure situations.
His performances at club level earned him regular recognition and opened the door to international duty with Egypt.
Standout displays for Egypt at AFCON
On the international stage, Abou Gabal has made 14 appearances for the Egypt national team.
He was one of the standout performers for the Pharaohs during the Africa Cup of Nations 2021, which was staged in early 2022.
Across that tournament he delivered a series of impressive displays, playing a significant role in helping Egypt reach the final, where they ultimately fell short but benefited from his consistency and composure in goal.
If his move to Hassania Agadir is confirmed, Abou Gabal will be looking to carry that pedigree into the Moroccan league, as he prepares for his first professional club experience outside Egypt.
