Egypt Cup: Al-Qanah defeat Modern Sport again to reach last 16

Al-Qanah beat Modern Sport 1-0 in the Egypt Cup round of 32, with Mody Shalata scoring the only goal to send his side through to the last 16.

The result was remarkably similar to Al-Qanah’s previous meeting with Modern Sport. That match also ended 1-0 in Al-Qanah’s favour, with Shalata again providing the decisive goal, although that game was played in the Egypt Capital Cup.

Shalata settled this latest contest in the 70th minute with a powerful strike from inside the penalty area. His goal gave Al-Qanah their place in the next round of the competition and continued a notably productive season for the forward.

He has now become the first player in Al-Qanah’s history to score in three different competitions during the same season. Shalata has found the net in the Egyptian League, the Egypt Cup and the Egypt Capital Cup.

The goal also took his total contribution for the current campaign to five, made up of three goals and two assists.

Al-Qanah will now face the winner of the round-of-32 tie between Arab Contractors and Telecom Egypt in the next stage of the Egypt Cup.
