Milan end Genoa winning run as Cisse and Pulisic secure 2-1 victory

Milan claimed a 2-1 win over Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris to make it successive victories in Serie A and move temporarily up to fourth place in the table.

Alfadjo Cisse and Christian Pulisic put the visitors two goals ahead before Mikel Alustron pulled one back late on for the hosts. The result leaves Milan with 24 points after 11 matches.

The defeat ended Genoa’s run of three consecutive wins. They remain 13th on 13 points.

Milan opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Cisse converted Adrian Rabiot’s low cross. The goal took the young Italian’s tally to five for the season, making him Milan’s leading scorer before his first call-up to the Italy national team.

The visitors doubled their advantage six minutes later. Milan won possession following sustained pressure, and Goncalo Ramos sent a low pass into the penalty area for Pulisic, who finished comfortably in the 19th minute.

Genoa reduced the deficit in the 88th minute through Alustron, setting up a tense finish at the Luigi Ferraris. Milan held on, however, to secure another league victory and extend their recent progress.

Milan will return to Serie A action against Frosinone on 22 November after the international break. Genoa will also play on the same date, when they travel to face Sassuolo.
