The Egyptian Football Association will appeal against FIFA’s suspensions of Egypt manager Hossam Hassan, team director Ibrahim Hassan and player Mostafa Ziko.
The trio were sanctioned after events during Egypt’s 3-2 defeat by Argentina in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
A source within the Egyptian Football Association told FilGoal.com: “We have decided to appeal FIFA’s decisions to suspend the duo, Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan, and Mostafa Ziko.”
Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan have each been banned for three matches, while Ziko has received a five-match suspension.
The penalties mean all three players and officials are set to miss Egypt’s two matches against Malawi in the November international break, in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Egyptian Football Association had earlier confirmed that it had received FIFA’s disciplinary decisions involving the national team manager, the team director and Ziko.
The source said the appeal process would take time, making it unlikely that the trio would be available for the Malawi fixtures.
“Appeal procedures take time, so it will be difficult for the trio to take part in the two matches against Malawi during the November break,” the source said.
“If the appeal is accepted and the length of the suspensions is reduced, that will happen after the November break,” the source added.
As a result of the three-match bans, Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan are also due to miss Egypt’s first match in March 2027, against Angola, after sitting out the Malawi games.
Ziko’s five-match suspension will keep him out of Egypt duty until June. He will therefore miss the four remaining matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, as well as one additional fixture.
