Djylian N’Guessan set for Liverpool move after January loan spell

Liverpool have reached an agreement with AS Saint-Etienne to sign 18-year-old forward Djylian N’Guessan, with the France youth international due to join the club permanently in January.

The Reds confirmed the transfer in a statement published on their official website. N’Guessan will remain in France until then, spending the rest of the 2026/27 season on loan with Stade Brestois as he continues his development.

The teenager, who is French and of Ivorian origin, came through the academy at AS Saint-Etienne and progressed quickly through the club’s age-group teams. He made his first-team debut in January 2025 and has since made 13 appearances for the senior side, scoring once.

Liverpool’s recruitment of N’Guessan is based on his potential to contribute to the squad in the medium and long term. His temporary move to Stade Brestois is expected to give him regular first-team football before he begins his Liverpool career and gets the opportunity to play at Anfield.

N’Guessan has also gained experience on the international stage with France’s youth teams. He played in seven matches for France Under-20s at the 2025 World Cup, where the French side finished fourth.

Earlier in his international career, he was selected in the team of the tournament at the European Under-17 Championship after scoring four goals. Those performances helped increase interest in the forward, whose estimated market value is €4m.

The agreement means Liverpool have secured the player’s future while allowing him to spend the immediate period of his development in familiar surroundings. He will officially become a Liverpool player in January, with the move structured as a permanent transfer rather than an initial loan.
