Former Algeria national team coach Djamel Belmadi has turned down an offer to take charge of the Saudi Arabian national team, despite the position being one of the most prestigious opportunities available. Belmadi, who famously led Algeria to their second Africa Cup of Nations title in 2019, has been without a managerial role since his departure from the Algerian squad in February.

Since leaving the Greens, Belmadi has not been short of offers. His success with Algeria made him a sought-after figure in international football, and several federations and clubs have expressed interest in securing his services.

Among these, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation approached Belmadi to replace Roberto Mancini, following Saudi Arabia’s disappointing performance in the Asian Cup of Nations.

However, Belmadi chose to decline the Saudi offer, a decision in line with his recent refusals of other notable positions.

Earlier, he turned down an approach from the Tunisian Football Federation and also rejected an offer to manage an undisclosed French club.

Rumors that Belmadi had offered himself to Olympique de Marseille (OM) were also dismissed as baseless.

Belmadi’s decision to take his time before returning to coaching seems to be a deliberate one. At 48 years old, he is in no rush to reenter the footballing fray

. Instead, he has expressed a desire to recharge and spend time with his family before committing to his next challenge.

Despite his current break from management, Belmadi remains dedicated to his coaching career and is waiting for the right project that aligns with his ambitions.

Meanwhile, Algeria has moved on under new leadership. Swiss coach Vladimir Petković was appointed to replace Belmadi and has made a promising start with the Fennecs.

Petković has secured three victories in his first four competitive matches, offering hope for a successful tenure with the Algerian national team.

Belmadi’s refusal to jump at the first opportunity reflects his careful consideration of his next steps.

With his proven track record and methodical approach, it seems only a matter of time before he returns to the sidelines, ready to take on a new challenge that matches his aspirations.
