Ghana defender Denis Odoi returns to Belgium after signing for Club NXT

Ghana international Denis Odoi has returned to Belgian football after completing a free transfer to Club NXT, signing a contract that will keep him at the club until the middle of 2027 with the option of an additional season.

The move was confirmed through Club Brugge’s official channels, marking the 38-year-old’s return to a familiar environment after his departure from Dutch side NAC Breda.

Odoi previously represented Club Brugge’s first team between 2022 and 2024, helping the club win two Belgian league titles during his time there.

His latest move, however, sees him join Club NXT, the club’s reserve side, where he is expected to play an important role in the development of the next generation of Belgian talent.

The experienced defender arrives with a wealth of top-flight experience and versatility, having featured as a right-back, centre-back and defensive midfielder throughout his career.

That adaptability made him a valuable member of Club Brugge’s senior squad during his previous spell with the club.

After leaving Club Brugge, Odoi went on to play for Royal Antwerp before joining NAC Breda. His time in the Netherlands ended following the club’s relegation to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, with the Ghanaian leaving as a free agent at the conclusion of his contract.

His return to Belgium now offers a fresh challenge, although in a different capacity from his previous spell. Instead of competing with the first team, Odoi will combine his on-field duties with the responsibility of helping guide and support the club’s promising young players as they continue their development.

The agreement gives the veteran defender the opportunity to remain at Club NXT for one season, with the possibility of extending his stay for another year through the option included in his contract.

Odoi will wear the number 96 shirt as he begins this new chapter in Belgian football.

Having already enjoyed success with Club Brugge earlier in his career, the experienced Ghanaian now returns with the aim of contributing both on the pitch and in the growth of the club’s emerging talents.
