Da Cruz leaves door open for further Kaizer Chiefs signings

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz says he is satisfied with his squad but would consider further additions before the transfer window closes if the right players become available.

The Soweto club have already strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Thabo Moloisane, Renaldo Leaner, Langelihle Phili, Adolf Mtasingwa and Faiz Abrahams on loan. They have also made Khanyisa Mayo’s move permanent.

Several players have left Kaizer Chiefs, while others have been sent out on loan as Da Cruz continues to build a squad in his preferred way.

Having watched his side compete in the Betway Premiership and MTN8, the French coach believes the club are making progress. However, he stressed that any further recruitment would need to improve the squad rather than simply increase its size.

“No, I am happy with the squad that I have,” Da Cruz said after Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-1 draw against Polokwane City on Saturday.

“If a player is going to arrive, I think I would take the opportunity, but I don’t want to take a player to take him. If it is to take someone, it is someone that will be useful.”

Da Cruz said he was disappointed by the result against Polokwane City but remained encouraged by the team’s performances and the direction of their development.

“For the moment, I am very happy with the squad that we have. We are moving forward; we are disappointed with the result,” he said.

“But we are on the right path in terms of the quality of the game, in terms of the modelling of the game, in terms of what we want to show. We must continue, we must not give up.”

The transfer window is due to close in the coming weeks, leaving Kaizer Chiefs with the option of making further changes if a player who can provide genuine value becomes available.
