Da Cruz explains limited Kaizer Chiefs appearances for Adolf Mtasingwa

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz says Adolf Mtasingwa’s limited involvement this season is the result of the midfielder adapting to life in South Africa and to the club’s playing style.

The 27-year-old Tanzania international joined Amakhosi at the start of the campaign but has played in only three matches across all competitions, including two Betway Premiership appearances.

Mtasingwa came on as a late substitute during Chiefs’ 1-1 draw away to Polokwane City on Saturday, featuring for 23 minutes.

The result left Kaizer Chiefs fourth in the league with 12 points, although they remain unbeaten this season.

Da Cruz said Mtasingwa arrived late in pre-season and has therefore needed additional time to adjust to the team’s methods.

“It’s related to his adaptation in South Africa because he arrived a little bit late during our preseason,” said Da Cruz.

The coach added that Mtasingwa still had to become familiar with the way Chiefs play, but insisted he had confidence in the midfielder.

“So he needs time to adapt to our game model. I trust in him a lot,” Da Cruz said.

With the fixture schedule expected to become busier after the next international window, Da Cruz believes Mtasingwa will have further opportunities to contribute.

“After the FIFA break we will play a lot of games so we will need everyone and Adolf will get minutes,” he said.
