Chippa United face FIFA registration ban until 2028

Chippa United remain under a FIFA registration ban, leaving the Betway Premiership club at risk of being unable to sign new players until 2028.

The Eastern Cape side were placed on FIFA’s registration ban list on September 18 and have remained there for more than a month. The sanction currently covers three transfer windows.

The latest FIFA registration ban list also includes JDR Stars and Unolia, the newest South African additions. JDR Stars sold their status to Leicesterford City before the start of last season, while Unolia are based in Limpopo.

Chippa United are the only club from the top-flight league currently affected by the latest update.

The reason for the new ban has not yet been established, but it comes only two months after the club had an earlier FIFA sanction removed.

That previous case involved Burkina Faso midfielder Roland Sanou, who took Chippa United to FIFA after claiming the club had breached his contract. Sanou won the case after a short spell with the Gqeberha-based team three years ago ended with his contract being terminated.

FIFA subsequently imposed a registration ban after Chippa failed to make the payments required within the deadline set by the world governing body.

FIFA can prevent clubs from registering new players when they fail to comply with its orders following financial disputes or regulatory breaches.

The latest ban means Chippa United could be unable to register new signings across three transfer windows unless the matter is resolved.
