Chelsea remain interested in signing Manchester City attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, having previously explored a move for the France international of Algerian descent, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.
The London club are reported to have admired Cherki for some time and had already attempted to recruit him before his move to Manchester City. Chelsea are understood to have considered a deal with Olympique Lyonnais that would have included Andrey Santos, but the discussions failed to produce an agreement.
Manchester City subsequently secured Cherki’s transfer, but Chelsea could return for the 23-year-old if sanctions against the Manchester club are imposed. Any renewed interest would depend heavily on the outcome of that situation, with no fresh approach by Chelsea announced at this stage.
Cherki remains contracted to Manchester City until 30 June 2030. His market value is estimated at 90 million euros, meaning any potential transfer would represent a significant financial commitment.
Chelsea are also likely to face strong competition if Cherki becomes available. Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are all reported to be monitoring the player, whose creativity, technical ability and skill in operating between the lines have made him an attractive option for leading European clubs.
For now, Cherki’s position remains unchanged at Manchester City. However, the situation could develop quickly if the sanctions under discussion are confirmed. Manchester City are due to play Liverpool in their sixth match of the English championship shortly.
