CAN 2013/GHANA: DANIEL NII ADJEI, NEWCOMER TO THE BLACK STARS
Daniel Nii Adjei, whose stellar performances earned him the title of “Best Player” in the Ghana first division championship while playing for Asante Kotoko, has received his maiden call-up to the Ghana Black Stars. The squad, revealed by coach Kwesi Appiah this Monday, also features the return of vice-captain John Paintsil, making a comeback after his last match with Ghana in March during a friendly against Chile.
Other notable returnees include David Addy, Jonathan Mensah, Rabiu Mohammed, and goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy. However, John Mensah, who is still in search of a club, is not part of Appiah’s plans. Similarly, Michael Essien, despite his return to competition with Real Madrid, has not secured a spot on the roster. Samuel Inkoom, the player from Dnipro in Ukraine, is also absent from the list.
Nevertheless, the squad assembled by Kwesi Appiah boasts significant talent. From Adam Kwarasey to Asamoah Gyan, including the Ayew brothers (Jordan and Andre), the Black Stars seem well-equipped to secure their place in the upcoming South Africa tournament. Ghana is set to face the Malawi Flames in Blantyre on October 13 with a two-goal advantage following their 2-0 victory in the first leg in Accra.
