The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has officially rejected the unilateral appointment of Marc Brys as the coach of the Indomitable Lions. This decision comes after nearly 24 hours of deliberation following the surprising announcement made by the Ministry of Sports.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, Fecafoot clarified its stance on the matter, emphasizing its exclusive authority in matters concerning the selection and appointment of coaching staff.
The federation expressed its disappointment at not being consulted prior to Brys’ appointment, highlighting that such decisions fall within its purview as outlined in relevant regulations.
“Despite our efforts to engage in constructive dialogue, we were not afforded the opportunity to participate in the selection process or finalize the contract of Mr. Brys and his accompanying staff,” the statement read.
Fecafoot underscored its commitment to upholding regulatory procedures and ensuring transparency in all appointments related to the national football teams.
The federation cited Article 4 of the relevant decree, which grants it sole authority over the recruitment and appointment of coaching and administrative personnel.
Furthermore, Fecafoot clarified that it could not endorse a decision that bypasses established protocols, emphasizing the need for adherence to due process in all administrative matters.
The rejection of Brys’ appointment signals a significant rift between Fecafoot and the Ministry of Sports, highlighting broader issues concerning governance and decision-making within Cameroon’s football administration.
As the situation unfolds, football enthusiasts await further developments, with attention focused on how the impasse will be resolved and who will ultimately assume the role of coaching the Indomitable Lions in the future.
