CAF sets July 25 deadline for club entries for 2026/27 interclub competitions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fixed July 25 as the final deadline for Member Associations to submit the list of clubs that will compete in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
The directive forms part of CAF’s annual coordination process ahead of its flagship interclub competitions, ensuring all participating teams are confirmed well in advance of the preliminary rounds scheduled to begin later in the year.
Under the new guidelines, national associations must formally register their representatives by the stipulated deadline, after which no changes will be accepted except under clearly defined replacement rules.
CAF has also clarified the protocol for substitutions in cases where qualified clubs are unable to participate.
For countries allocated one Champions League slot, if the domestic champion is unable or ineligible to compete, the vacant place will be offered to the league’s runner-up.
In associations granted two representatives, the replacement hierarchy extends further down the league table.
Should either of the qualifying clubs withdraw or be unable to take part, the next eligible teams will be selected in order of their league finish, with third- and fourth-placed sides stepping in where necessary.
The move is aimed at maintaining competitive balance while ensuring that all slots in CAF’s elite club competitions are filled.
It also reinforces the importance of domestic league performance, with league standings playing a decisive role in determining continental representation.
The 2026/27 CAF interclub season is expected to feature a full calendar of continental action, with clubs across Africa vying for qualification, prestige, and lucrative progression through the Champions League and Confederation Cup stages.
