CAF President Patrice Motsepe has expressed confidence that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco will be the most competitive tournament in the history of the competition.

Speaking after the group stage draw in Morocco on Monday, Motsepe backed the upcoming tournament to surpass the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire, which was widely regarded as the best AFCON to date.

Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakech, Fes, and Tangier have been selected as the host cities, with matches set to take place across nine stadiums.

“This is going to be an exciting competition. The first words we said in Ivory Coast were that that competition was going to be the most successful. I want to say it again, all of us are confident,” Motsepe stated.

“The Total Energies AFCON in Morocco this year in December is going to be the most successful, the most competitive, the most exciting in the history of this competition.”

The 2025 AFCON is scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, as the continent’s top teams battle for supremacy in what is expected to be a thrilling tournament.
