It was recently reported by Africa Top Sports.com, among other global news outlets, that a government survey conducted by the Institute of Government Economic Survey (IPEA) suggested that “65.1% of respondents believe that a woman wearing provocative clothing ‘deserves’ to be raped.” However, this alarming statistic was later revealed to be false. The correct figure, as clarified by the IPEA, is 26%.
Following the acknowledgment of this error, Rafael Guerreiro Osório, the director responsible for the investigation, resigned from his position.
It’s important to note that despite the correction, the survey still found that 58.5% of respondents believe that “if women behaved better, there would be fewer rapes.”
