Brazil to play Australia twice in September friendlies as Ancelotti era begins

Brazil will face Australia in two September friendlies in Queensland as part of their early preparations for 2030 World Cup qualifying and the 2028 Copa America under new coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The Brazil national team has confirmed it will play Australia twice during the next international window, with matches scheduled for 25 and 29 September.

The first game will be held at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, with the second taking place at Suncorp Stadium, both in the Australian state of Queensland.

The fixtures form part of Brazil’s build-up towards a new competitive cycle, with Italian coach Ancelotti now in charge as the five-time world champions look ahead to the South American qualifiers for the 2030 World Cup and the next edition of the Copa America in 2028.

Further friendly planned in same window Brazil are also expected to play a third friendly during the same international break, which runs from 21 September to 6 October, although details of that fixture have not yet been announced.

The games in Queensland will be the first meetings between Brazil and Australia since 2017, when the Selecao recorded a 4-0 victory in a friendly.

In total, the two nations have faced each other eight times. Brazil have won six of those matches, with one draw, while Australia’s sole victory over the South Americans came at the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Australia went out earlier in the competition, losing to Egypt on penalties in the round of 32.
