Bayern Munich declines to trigger purchase option on Nicolas Jackson

Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson is set to return to Chelsea FC this summer after Bayern Munich declined to trigger the purchase option at the end of his loan spell.

Speaking to ZDF in an interview, Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl clarified the club’s decision regarding the Senegal international’s future.

“We will not activate the permanent transfer clause for Jackson,” Eberl stated, ending speculation about a long-term stay in Munich and confirming the striker’s imminent return to England.

Jackson joined Bayern on a season-long loan in search of more consistent game time and development at elite European level. However, despite showing flashes of quality, the German champions have opted against retaining him beyond the current campaign.

Across his loan spell, the 24-year-old has made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals. While his output was respectable, Bayern’s decision suggests they are looking for a different profile or higher level of consistency in their attacking options moving forward.

For Chelsea, the situation now resets. The Premier League side will welcome back a player who still has time on his side and valuable experience from both English and German football. His return also adds another attacking option to their squad planning ahead of the new season.

Jackson’s time in Germany provided him with exposure to a different tactical environment, where he was required to adapt to Bayern’s high-possession, high-intensity style. Although he did not do enough to secure a permanent deal, the experience is expected to contribute to his development.
