Barcelona stand firm on Gavi as midfielder waits for greater role

Barcelona have no intention of allowing Gavi to leave the club, while the midfielder is equally determined to remain at Camp Nou despite his reduced involvement this season.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, there is no desire on either side to bring their relationship to an end. Gavi has received considerably fewer minutes than he expected, but has no plans to consider a move during the winter transfer window in January or next summer.

The 21-year-old remains committed to becoming a success in a Barcelona shirt and believes he still has an important contribution to make. Although he is unsettled by the lack of regular football, his priority is to improve his situation rather than seek an exit.

Gavi has also been affected by the psychological challenge of trying to establish consistency after spending time recovering from injuries. He is now in good physical condition, but his competitive character makes it difficult to accept being left out of the team on a regular basis.

The midfielder understands that the season is still long and that opportunities will arise for every player. He remains confident that his chance will eventually come and is prepared to be patient while waiting for it.

Flick continues to back Gavi

Several clubs from outside Spain have contacted Gavi to find out his position, but the midfielder has given the same response: he does not want to listen to offers.

His ambition has always been to succeed with Barcelona, and that belief has not changed. The club’s stance matches his own, with manager Hansi Flick continuing to value Gavi both for the present and as part of his plans for the team’s future.

Gavi’s limited playing time is understood to be the result of sporting considerations alone. There is strong competition for places in midfield, and Flick currently considers some of the player’s team-mates to be ahead of him in the pecking order. No other reason has been given for the manager’s decisions.

The situation is also a concern for Gavi because a lack of regular football could affect his prospects with Spain during the current season. However, that possibility has not changed his intentions.

Instead, he remains determined to work hard, regain his place and prove that he deserves to be included in Flick’s starting line-up. He does not want to discuss a transfer, a loan move or negotiations with other clubs, with Barcelona remaining his sole priority.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has also addressed Gavi’s position in recent hours. Romano said that, unlike some of his Barcelona team-mates, including Alejandro Balde, Gavi is not available on the transfer market and remains part of the club’s plans.

He added that there are no moves under way to take Gavi away from Barcelona and no indication that the player wants to leave the Catalan club.
