Barcelona eyes Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush as potential Lewandowski successor
Barcelona’s interest in acquiring Egyptian international Omar Marmoush has sparked discussions across European football circles, with recent reports from the Spanish sports daily Sport indicating that the Catalan club views the Eintracht Frankfurt forward as a promising future addition.
Sport, a publication with strong ties to Barcelona’s board, revealed that the club is seriously considering Marmoush as a successor to their veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
As speculation continues, Marmoush has recently traveled to Egypt to join the national team for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cape Verde and Botswana.
The Egyptian forward’s strong performances at Frankfurt and his versatility have drawn the attention of Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, who sees Marmoush as a key option in his search for a dynamic, multi-positional forward to reinforce the club’s offensive line.
According to Sport, Laporta has shortlisted three players as possible successors to Lewandowski, with Marmoush standing out as a top contender due to his adaptability and skill set.
“Marmoush is a versatile player who can operate effectively in any of the three forward positions,” the report highlighted.
“His free-kick prowess has been impressive as well, with consecutive goals from set pieces against Bochum, Slavia Prague, and Stuttgart.”
The report also mentioned Marmoush’s current market value, estimated at €40 million, noting that a potential transfer might fall within Barcelona’s financial range.
Frankfurt is reportedly open to negotiating a deal for around €45 million, which aligns with Barcelona’s budgetary considerations.
Meanwhile, Egyptian sports commentator and former national team goalkeeper Ahmed Shober weighed in on the rumors, confirming that several English Premier League clubs are also monitoring Marmoush’s progress.
“Apart from Barcelona, more than five Premier League clubs are interested in signing Marmoush,” Schubert stated, adding, “May God protect him from injury.”
As the speculation intensifies, Marmoush’s next steps could mark a pivotal chapter in his career, with clubs across Europe eager to secure the talented Egyptian forward.
