Tolu Arokodare has indicated that a pay rise could be part of the conditions for him to remain at Ajax Amsterdam beyond his loan spell from Wolverhampton.
The Nigeria international made an immediate impact in Ajax’s 2-0 win over Atalanta in the Johan Cruijff ArenA this week, coming on in the 66th minute with the match still goalless and helping to change the course of the game.
The result revived Ajax’s European campaign and continued an impressive start to life in Amsterdam for Arokodare. The striker has scored six goals and provided two assists in his first nine appearances for the Dutch club.
Speaking to the media after the match, the 24-year-old made clear that he feels a strong connection with Ajax. He said he particularly enjoyed his surroundings and appreciated the affection he had received since arriving at the club.
Asked by Voetbal Primeur about reports of a permanent transfer, Arokodare left the negotiations to the directors of Ajax and Wolverhampton. He also responded with humour by suggesting that an improved salary would be necessary.
Discussions between the two clubs and the player’s representatives are already under way, according to Africafoot, which previously reported the negotiations exclusively. Ajax are looking to offer Arokodare a three-year contract.
The forward, referred to as 25 years old in the transfer discussions, remains under contract with Wolverhampton until 2029.
Ajax’s next fixture will be their 10th league match of the season in the Netherlands, against Sparta Rotterdam.
