Amine Gouiri was wanted by Tottenham at Roberto De Zerbi’s request

Amine Gouiri could have moved to England during the most recent summer transfer window, with Tottenham considering a deal for the Algeria international at the request of manager Roberto De Zerbi, according to La Provence.

De Zerbi knows Gouiri from his time in charge of Olympique de Marseille and was keen to reunite with the 26-year-old forward in north London. However, the proposed transfer depended on Tottenham first creating space in their attacking squad.

The London club would have needed to sell either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison before it could complete a move for Gouiri. That condition made the deal more difficult to conclude, and the striker ultimately remained with Marseille.

Gouiri’s current situation at Marseille is less straightforward. La Provence says his statistics remain encouraging, but that his influence on the team’s performances has declined. Although he continues to offer technical quality and contribute to attacking moves, he has struggled to affect matches with the same consistency.

That reduction in influence is an important issue for Gouiri as he seeks to establish himself more firmly in Marseille’s long-term plans. His versatility across the forward line remains one of his main strengths and continues to make him a valuable option for the club.

The Algeria international is under contract with Marseille until 30 June 2029. His estimated market value is €30m, while his annual salary in France is €4,550,000, equivalent to 2,957,500,000 FCFA.

Marseille’s next fixture will be against Le Havre AC in the eighth round of the French championship. The match odds listed by 1xbet are 1.52 for a Marseille victory, 4.50 for a draw and 5.00 for a Le Havre win.
