Anthony Gordon hails Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ‘magic’ assist for England

Anthony Gordon praised Trent Alexander-Arnold after the England team-mate created his goal with an outstanding pass against Czechia in the UEFA Nations League.

Gordon, listed as a Barcelona player, opened the scoring with a header following a superb delivery from Alexander-Arnold, who is listed as a Real Madrid player. England went on to beat Czechia 2-0.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Gordon said the run he made for the goal was one he repeated regularly, but only a small number of players could produce the pass required to find him.

“I make that run over and over again, and there are only certain types of players who have the technique, ability and courage to take that risk and play a ball like that,” Gordon said.

“The credit goes to Trent, and that is why he is such a great player. I was really looking forward to playing with him for that reason.”

Gordon also praised Alexander-Arnold’s character and his contribution to the England squad, while acknowledging that the defender had wanted to feature more regularly for the national team.

“Trent has had his own journey with England. He wanted to play more than he has, but he is a great character. He is a great addition,” Gordon added.
