Trabzonspor among Conference League’s lowest-running teams after Freiburg defeat

Trabzonspor rank 33rd out of 36 teams for distance covered in the 2026-27 UEFA Conference League, with their figures raising questions about the Turkish side’s physical output after a 1-0 defeat by Freiburg at Papara Park.

Statistics published by Football Data and reported by Turkish website 61saat show that Trabzonspor have covered an average of 112.72 kilometres per match in the competition.

Only three teams are below them in the rankings. Lincoln Red Imps are 34th on 112.00km per game, while Aarhus are 35th with 110.88km and Egnatia are bottom on 110.85km.

Freiburg, meanwhile, are eighth in the table, recording an average of 121.04km per match. The German club’s victory over Trabzonspor on the previous day highlighted the difference between the two teams’ running statistics.

The gap between the sides is 8.32km per match across the competition a distance broadly comparable to the amount covered by one player during an entire game.

Sint-Truiden lead the rankings

Sint-Truiden top the list after averaging 127.15km per match. Mjallby are second on 124.31km, with Braga third on 122.86km.

Trabzonspor’s position is notable, but total distance covered does not provide a complete assessment of a team’s physical performance or competitive commitment. High-intensity running, sprint figures, off-the-ball movement and the team’s overall style all contribute to a fuller analysis.

The statistics do, however, underline the contrast between Trabzonspor and Freiburg and have prompted debate over whether the Turkish side’s approach can succeed despite covering fewer kilometres, or whether the shortfall could prove costly in their upcoming matches.

The schedule also lists Trabzonspor against Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on 08 November 2026, while Freiburg are due to face Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on the same date.
