Anis Hadj Moussa once again proved his rising star status as he delivered a standout performance in Feyenoord’s 3-3 draw against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening. The 22-year-old Algerian winger, who had been relatively quiet since joining the Dutch side last summer, has now struck form with four consecutive impressive displays, including his crucial contribution to his team’s remarkable comeback against City.
After a slow start to his Feyenoord career, Hadj Moussa has come into his own over the past few weeks, scoring in each of his last four outings.
His recent goals against the likes of Salzburg (1-3 on November 6), Almere City (1-4), and Heerenveen (3-0) were impressive, but it was his performance on Tuesday that truly caught the eye.
Trailing 3-0 with only 15 minutes left in the game, Feyenoord appeared destined for defeat. However, Hadj Moussa had other ideas.
Alert to a poor back pass from Manchester City’s defence, the winger capitalized on the error, swiftly intercepting the ball before taking on goalkeeper Ederson.
With composure, he calmly dribbled past the Brazilian keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net, giving Feyenoord a vital lifeline and reducing the deficit to 3-1 in the 74th minute.
The goal not only ignited his team’s comeback but also secured his fourth goal of the season in just 13 appearances.
Hadj Moussa’s display was enough to earn him the prestigious ‘Man of the Match’ award, much to the chagrin of City’s double scorer Erling Haaland and midfielder Matheus Nunes, who had provided the assist for City’s third goal.
The Algerian’s quick thinking and decisive actions turned the tide of the game, and he was instrumental in Feyenoord’s push to salvage a draw against the reigning Premier League champions.
While Hadj Moussa’s form has been a welcome boost for Feyenoord, it also raises questions about his future with the national team.
After four consecutive call-ups earlier this year, he was left out of Algeria’s most recent squad, despite his growing influence at the club level.
With the next international break on the horizon, it remains to be seen whether the winger will earn a return to the national fold, having previously impressed since his debut for the Greens in March.
For now, Hadj Moussa’s heroics continue to make headlines, as he cements his reputation as one of the breakout stars of the season.
