Hakim Ziyech proud to carry Morocco’s flag in Brazil  after joining Botafogo

Morocco international Hakim Ziyech says he is proud to represent his country after completing his move to Brazilian club Botafogo.

The 33-year-old addressed Moroccan supporters in a video shared by Botafogo following the club’s announcement of his arrival, thanking them for their support and asking them to continue backing him during his time in Brazil.

“Hello Moroccans. I have arrived in Brazil. Thank you for all the love and support, and I hope you continue to do so here in Brazil. I am happy to represent the Moroccan flag here in Brazil,” Ziyech said.

Ziyech begins new chapter with Botafogo

Botafogo have signed the Moroccan on a contract running until the end of 2028, bringing the experienced attacker to Brazil after his short spell with Wydad AC.

The Brazilian club highlighted Ziyech’s experience at the highest level, including his participation at the FIFA World Cup and achievements in European competition.

His move to Rio de Janeiro has also generated excitement among Botafogo supporters, with around 200 fans reportedly gathering at Galeão Airport to welcome him following his arrival.

Supporters chanted the Moroccan’s name as he began his new chapter in Brazilian football.

Moroccan star keen to make an impact

Ziyech will now look to use his experience from European football to make an impact in Brazil, with his contract keeping him at Botafogo until 2028.

For the former Chelsea and Ajax attacker, however, his first message after arriving in Brazil carried a wider meaning, with Ziyech making it clear that he sees the move as another opportunity to proudly represent Morocco on the international stage.
