Amine Gouiri’s future uncertain as Marseille consider summer offers

Olympique de Marseille are facing a difficult decision over the future of Amine Gouiri, with the club’s financial situation increasing the possibility of a summer transfer despite concerns over replacing the Algerian forward.

Marseille are expected to consider offers between €25 million and €30 million for the 26-year-old as they continue efforts to balance their finances.

Although the club are prepared to sell valuable assets, Gouiri’s departure could leave the squad short of an established centre-forward ahead of the new season.

The issue has become more pressing following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Deportivo La Coruña.

While Neal Maupay has returned after his loan spell at Sevilla FC, Marseille no longer have a recognised first-choice striker, placing added importance on Gouiri’s role within the squad.

The situation has created a dilemma for the club’s coaching staff. Despite the financial realities facing Marseille, there remains a desire to retain one of their key attacking players.

“When you have good players, you want to keep them. But there’s a contextual reality. I was aware of what was happening when I signed. I knew we were going to have to sell players. Everyone was honest and clear with me.

I signed fully aware of this new direction for the club. There are constraints to it, but I’ve accepted them and I know it,” declared the coach, who previously managed the Algerian player at Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais FC.

Gouiri has emerged as a player attracting interest outside France, with Napoli among the clubs linked with the forward.

However, questions remain over whether the Italian side would be willing to meet the level of investment required to complete a deal.

Turkey has also been mentioned as a possible destination. Fenerbahçe SK are reportedly monitoring the Algeria international after previously completing the signing of his former Marseille teammate Mason Greenwood for €39 million.

Even so, it remains uncertain whether the Turkish club would commit to another high-value transfer involving a Marseille player during the same transfer window.

Meanwhile, Marseille continue to reshape their squad as part of efforts to reduce costs. According to the available information, Medhi Benatia has been given responsibility for overseeing player departures this summer, with the club seeking to lower the size of the squad while managing its financial commitments.

As interest in Gouiri continues, Marseille must now balance their financial objectives against the challenge of maintaining sufficient attacking quality for the season ahead.

Whether the Algerian forward remains at the club may ultimately depend on whether an offer reaches the valuation set by the French side.
