Olympique de Marseille were beaten 2-1 by Paris Saint-Germain at the Velodrome on Sunday evening, suffering another Ligue 1 defeat on the fifth matchday. Amine Gouiri impressed again for the hosts, but his contribution was not enough to prevent Marseille from losing.
PSG took the lead through Ferran Torres before Marseille levelled. Gouiri played a key role in the equaliser, sending Angel Gomes through with a pass into space and allowing the Englishman to restore parity.
The Algeria international, who has already scored for Marseille this season, continues to influence the club’s attacking play.
Paris regained the advantage through Marquinhos, leaving Marseille to chase the game in the closing stages. The home side pushed for another equaliser, but could not find one.
Nayef Aguerd came closest late on when the Morocco international had an opportunity with a header, although Marseille were unable to turn their pressure into a second goal.
The result extends Marseille’s poor run in the league.
