Alvaro Morata joins Leganes on loan from Como

Leganes have signed Spain international striker Alvaro Morata from Italian club Como on a season-long loan, with an option to buy included in the agreement.

The Spanish club confirmed the move in an official statement, bringing Morata back to Spain after a successful season in Italy. The 21-year-old? NoMorata will wear number 21 at Leganes, and is expected to join the squad’s training sessions immediately under manager Ruben Albes.

Morata arrives after making a significant contribution to Como’s campaign, helping the club secure qualification for the Champions League. The move represents a return to Spanish football for the experienced forward, who has spent much of his career playing for leading European clubs.

The 32-year-old has made 660 appearances during his professional career, scoring 230 goals and providing 90 assists. His club career has included spells with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus, Atletico de Madrid and Galatasaray, as well as Como.

Morata’s honours include two Champions League titles with Real Madrid, two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies. He has also won the FIFA Club World Cup and collected major international honours with Spain.

At international level, Morata has played 87 times for Spain, scoring 37 goals and creating eight more. Those figures place him fourth in Spain’s all-time scoring rankings.

He was part of the Spain side that won the UEFA Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024. Morata captained Spain during their success at Euro 2024, adding another significant achievement to a career that has included domestic and European titles.

Leganes will hope his experience at the highest level can strengthen their attack as they prepare for the new season. His immediate arrival in training gives Albes the opportunity to work with the forward from the start of his temporary spell.

The agreement allows Leganes to sign Morata permanently at the end of the loan, although the club has not announced the value of the purchase option. His return to Spain also brings him back into the domestic game after his latest campaign with Como, where his performances helped the Italian side reach the Champions League.

Morata began his senior career with Real Madrid before developing his reputation across several of Europe’s major leagues. His time with Chelsea, Juventus, Atletico de Madrid and Galatasaray added to his experience, while his achievements with Real Madrid and Spain established him as one of the most decorated forwards of his generation.

At Leganes, he will wear the number 21 shirt and work under Albes as the club seek to benefit from his goalscoring record, international experience and familiarity with Spanish football.
