Al Ahly and Zamalek placed on collision course in Egypt Cup draw

Al Ahly and Zamalek have been placed in the same half of the 2026-27 Egypt Cup draw, creating the possibility of a meeting between Egypt’s two biggest clubs before the final.

The last-32 draw was held at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association on Thursday and also mapped out the route for every team through the later knockout rounds.

Al Ahly will begin their campaign against the winners of the tie between Al Nasr and Al Sekka Al Hadid. Zamalek will face the winners of the match between Misr Insurance and Pharco.

Defending champions Pyramids will play the winners of Al Dakhleya and Al Tersana, while Al Masry face Misr El Maqassah in another of the headline ties.

ZED will meet the winners of Samannoud and Baladiyat El Mahalla, and Ceramica Cleopatra have been drawn against Abu Qir Fertilizers. All of the clubs will be aiming to reach the last 16 and maintain their challenge for the trophy.

The preliminary rounds produced a surprise departure for Ismaily, who were eliminated in the third preliminary round after a 1-0 defeat by El Rabat & El Anwar.

Pyramids won last season’s competition by beating ZED 2-1 in the final. That victory secured the trophy for the second time in the club’s history.
